GMRS Reviews

FRS Radio Reviews

While you can't test each FRS radio brand and model to see how they perform under typical conditions, our reviews provide the results of our hands-on tests of the features you want and need.  We offer our opinions of which radios really deliver and which ones offer only basic services.  We test the ranges that are advertised to see if their claims are true.

Bellsouth 1008 FRS Radio

Range

Criteria:  Flat land sending and receiving, suburb setting.

Clear .8
Faint/Static yet usable 1.0
Signals lost 1.2
Clarity Reception clarity is very clear.
Features Call feature is a longer phone ring type sound and is sufficiently loud.
Ergonomics

Ease of use, and general feel

Left side transmission button has a solid press feel with clear tactile feedback as to when the button is pressed.  Buttons are also rubber and are organized as expected.
Quality Impressions Radio case is of a transparent color (purple, blue) and has the appearance that it would easily crack if dropped, however when dropped twice (accidentally), it did not crack, and all features were still available.
Volume Radio has small volume range.  It consists of loud to almost deafening.  If you need a radio in a loud environment, this is it.  If loud radios bother you, better pass on this one.
Overall Impressions While this radio has a basic set of features, and sounds quite clear when in range,  it gets lower marks for it's limited range, and inability to lower volume to a reasonable level.
