About This Site

With so many different FRS and GMRS radios on the market today, GMRS Reviews provides you with a simple, convenient method of comparing the various brands of FRS and GMRS radios and their available features.

Radio Reviews - You can't test each FRS or GMRS radio brand and model to see how they perform under typical conditions.  You could visit each manufacturer's web page and note them individually or you could simply click the handy comparison chart and check them out all at once.

Radio Testing - My reviews section provides the results of hands-on tests of the features you want and need.  I offer opinions of which radios really deliver and which ones offer only basic services.  I test the maximum ranges that are advertised to see if their claims are true.

Independent - I  am neither affiliated with any FRS/GMRS radio manufacturer or distributor nor am I paid by any FRS/GMRS radio manufacturers to plug any particular brand.

A Note on Advertised Ranges

We don't hold or rate GMRS radios to their advertised ranges.  The ranges stated on radio packages may be only remotely possible in ideal conditions such as over water or atop a mountain.   If you want to use these radios at the mall, at the game, or in other everyday locations, you'll get much less than advertised. THIS IS TRUE WITH ALL BRANDS OF RADIOS WE'VE USED. .

We prefer to hold radios to real-world, less than ideal conditions.  "GMRS Reviews" employs a benchmark of 20% of advertised ranges.  This means that a reviewed GMRS radio should be able to meet this typical-use benchmark and if it meets this benchmark, we give it full credit.  Based on our actual use testing, 20% is a much closer approximation to real world ranges you can expect.
